God has taught and shown me that his grace is sufficient and all that is needed in this life. I know that he is the only thing that matters in the end, regardless of what your life is to the world. Seeing the people of Haiti accept this knowledge was extremely encouraging.
Cristi Flores
Going to Haiti is by far one of the best things I've ever done. Besides being graced with the opportunity to serve the people of another culture through Christ, I got to grow in my own faith. Being surrounded by 40 other people who love God so much has just left me so motivated to go back to Dallas and continue to study the Word. One of the best aspects of the whole trip was the fact that I learned so much from the kids of Haiti. Their willingness and capacity to love total strangers is overwhelming, and they reminded me that I need to be just like them in relation to my friends, classmates, The Lord.
As much as I will miss being in Haiti it's comforting to know that I can go back home and feel so humble and encouraged to remain strong in my faith.

This week has been so incredible! God has changed me in so many ways, I know my life will never be the same. It was such a humbling and encouraging experience to meet these people who have literally nothing but are so rich in faith in the Lord and are so full of joy. Everything we did was such a great experience but I think I will miss village time the most. It was so amazing to go into these villages and hold little Haitian babies (most of which I considered taking home) and be welcomed into their lives and loved even though they didn't know us. Church was also an amazing experience. I absolutely loved watching two completely different cultures worship the same amazing God. I'm so thankful for everything I have and to be born in America, where we can drink the water and flush the toilet paper. I feel so blessed by this trip and I can't wait to come back to Haiti soon.

Going to Haiti and seeing a different culture changed my perspective on what I have and let me see that the most important thing is not an iPhone or a Walmart or even a house, but immersing yourself in God and fully trusting in Him. I was amazed how much people with seemingly nothing actually have everything they could ever need. Seeing the conviction and love in the Haitian people truly inspired me. It was so easy to love on the people of Haiti when I was there, but I think the true challenge will be to show the people back home how much God loves them. I'm so happy I came on this trip and have this experience to remember. I'll definitely be counting down the days to the trip next year.
Molly Sandlin
Haiti was such a great experience to get me out of my comfort zone. God taught me this week that community and prayer are huge. There's no way to be accountable for yourself in your walk with Christ and prayer is not just for special occasions. A week away from my worldly possessions and obsessions to spend time loving on Haitians and growing stronger in my walk with the Lord and I can't imagine having spent it any other way.
Kevin walker: this week I've been battling a lot with what I want and with what God wants for me. This summer I've been living for my own pleasure and selfish desires, and this trip has really opened my eyes to how extremely blessed I am. To see all these people living in such poverty but living with such joy and happiness is a miracle that can only be explained by their love of Christ and hope in eternal life with him. They have nearly nothing physically but their hearts are so full of love and that has been a huge encouragement for me. I take a look at myself, and my selfishness and then I look at the Haitian people and I see just how much I've taken for granted Gods undying love for me. This trip has not only been to help the Haitian people and share the love of Christ with them but it has been a big growing point in my walk with God.
Kathryn Williams:
Today being the last day of the trip has made me realize that I need to take back what I learned from this trip and apply it back in my "mission field." I need to serve the Lord in Dallas just like what we did in Haiti. This trip has helped me grow so much in my relationship with Christ. I've learned that I don't need to just pray for what's bad in my life, I can just talk to to God.

Leaving today!
More updates below!
Grant sanders: before I came on this trip I didn't know what to expect. I was really nervous and kind of scared. But once we got here I was immediately out of my comfort zone and I loved it. The Lord has taught me so much this week. Through vbs with the kids, painting houses, or just spending time with families in the villages. The people of Haiti are truly amazing and God is doing so much here and it's incredible to see his work. One thing that has really impacted my walk with Christ is seeing how joyful these people are. That even though they have little to nothing they are filled with joy and satisfaction because of their faith in the Lord. And it is just a huge awakening and encouragement that putting your faith in the Lord is truly all you can ever need.
Charli Cates:
I came to Haiti not knowing what to expect, and this being my first time here, I was nervous. So people who have never been would like to know what it's like, so I will tell you. When we arrived at the port au prince airport immediately you could see the change. First, there is no air conditioners in Haiti, there is trash piled everywhere, and most of the people here live in tents. People stare at you all the time, and to be honest, i have never felt so out of place in my life.
So this brings me to some of the simple rules that we have to follow while we are here. Rule 1: "if its yellow let it mellow..." and you are not allowed to flush down toilet paper. Rule 2: don't waste, as easy as that sounds that is something we all take for granted. Rule 3: stay safe. In Haiti we do our best to stay safe, and trust me it's crazy here.
As you can imagine all of this is hard to take in, and it's amazing to see how much God has done to change this broken place. Haiti has taught me so much, and I think the thing that really impacted me the most is how much God really loves me. It's so crazy to see how dependent on the Lord and just so joyful these people are. This trip has really blessed me to have come and I'm so grateful to be here.
Elaine MacQuilkan: Although you're forced out of your comfort zone, you are able to make new friendships, witness many of Gods miracles, come back with crazy stories, and strengthen your relationship with Christ. One of the coolest things that happened this week was when I met a 20 year old Haitian in one of the villages. We were asked to walk in and just pray for them. When I asked this man what we could pray for him, I was expecting a prayer request about providing him with food and water and maybe shelter, the only thing he asked for was that his faith would become stronger in Christ. That had to be one of the most encouraging moments this week.
James "El Chupacabra" Thweatt: As a returning volunteer on the Haiti trip I thought I knew what to expect. I brought more fans, a bigger mosquito net, lighter clothes, etc. but I still wasn't prepared to see the change. Haiti is still in shambles but the work that Mission of Hope is doing is recognizable and immediate. MOH now has multiple campuses and is feeding thousands of kids everyday. They're doing so much even the government is recognizing their effort and has given them multiple plots of land for elementary and trade schools. So as all this good work is being done, Watermark gets to be right in the middle of it. Spending time with the kids in VBS and the families in the surrounding villages is always an incredibly enriching experience. Their bold faith and stalwart joy is extremely refreshing in the midst of a country consumed in plight. I always leave Haiti feeling immensely blessed by the experience.

Haiti updates
Great last 2 days! More updates below!
Sarah Peyton Ellerman
This week has been an amazing week for me just to gain perspective on even my life. I've gotten to know some of the VBS kids really well but I've gotten to know the Lord more. It has been so awesome just to see the joy and smiles on the kids faces even when they have had hard lives. That just lifts me up and gives me healing to know that through pain, Jesus can still give us joy! this trip has just made me really think like why do I rely on things so much because it can all get taken away. It's been awesome hearing just how many lives Mission of Hope have touched and are continuing to touch and it's just a great blessing to be apart of that mission.
Courtney Wolfe
This week has been such a blessing in so many ways. I've made so many new Haitian friends and many new friends from Watermark. I love seeing the smiles on kids faces when we play with them and show them love, I've actually had 6 kids fall asleep on me this week. It is truly a blessing getting to know everyone and sharing my testimony and show people God's unconditional love and mercy with my story. I will take everything I've learned this week and take it home. I can't wait to come back!
Kirby Wagner
Gosh, where to begin. This week I have been humbled in so many ways. How unworthy I am to be used here in this country this week. The lord is hard at work here in Ayiti (Haiti) and i know i am so blessed to have an opportunity to come and be a part of it. This week I have been so reminded of what my mission is here on earth and that I need to be faithful in Dallas just as our translators and Mission of Hope is here in Haiti. More than anything, I am leaving Haiti encouraged. It is so encouraging to have been surrounded by 40 students who have for a week diligently served and daily sought out opportunities to get into the Word and encouraging one another. It is so unique to get to leave the country and get to serve with a bunch of crazy highschoolers that are passionately and actively pursuing Christ. Parents, be encouraged as I have been, your kids have been so awesome. Don't miss out on hearing every detail, some really cool stories and fun memories are headed your way.
Bert McJunkin
Wow, this week has been amazing. Being back in Haiti is such a blessing and I have learned many things. The Lord uses this Country to teach me how small I really am, and how big He is. I am so humbled to be apart of the Lords work here in Haiti, because it is something great. To see how much Mission of Hope has grown in the past year is astounding, and truly shows how the power of Christ is unstoppable. With MOH feeding over 50,000 kids a day, that is amazing, and a work of God. However God has reminded me of my permanent mission field, which is Plano Senior High School and the city of Plano. I am so encouraged to meet new friends that are chasing after the Cross both in Haiti, and folks from Watermark. Now when we get back home, I have even more friends to spur me on back home, and keep me accountable for my actions as I pursue Christ. Every experience here has been great. Playing with VBS kids from Soosmatla and seeing there huge grins was such a blast and an encouragement to always be reminded of the joy we have in Christ regardless of our worldly situation. Walking around Titanyen talking to families and praying for them was also a sweet time to see how inviting the people of Haiti are. The Lord has taught me many things and I am so thankful that God chose such an unworthy guy to serve His kingdom in Haiti for a week.

This week has been such a special time for me. I've made so many new friends some who live in Haiti and its just been amazing to experience everything that goes on here. I support mission of hope 100% and am glad I had a chance to work with them. It's crazy to think that achemet and hemas two translators that we met here do this everyday.. And we think we have to travel to a 3rd world country to minister to the people. We should be just like them and be sharing to our own people. It really hit me when D-Marv said something about that. This trip has been really pivotal in my life and I know that God has done great things in my heart and I hope he has many great things in store in the future.
Caroline Silva
Something that really struck me about the opportunity to go to Haiti this week was the need there Is for the gospel to be made more known. it was great to share the love of Christ with the people in this country, but it made me even more aware of the need for Jesus right where I am. The people of Haiti may have a more visible need than those who live in Dallas, but the need for Christ is universal. I've been so encouraged to see the Lords provision and faithfulness here and I can't wait to continue to see it in action at home. It has been unreal to see that an absence of material possessions has created a greater dependence on on the Lord for these people. My prayer for myself, everyone on the trip, and even those at home is that we could hear the Lord in the middle of our crazy Dallas lives, to slow down enough to hear his will, to be broken to where only he can repair us, and to be striped of all that distracts us, just like the people of Haiti. To live with utter dependence on him.
Dominique Sung:
I have really been enjoying this trip! :) The weather and the food have been great! I was unsure of how this week would be, but I have learned so much and met so many wonderful people. It has been such a blessing to be in Haiti and witness so many people having such a passion for God and the Word. I appreciate the daily devotionals because it helps me set apart time with God. Also, back in Dallas, I had been taking everyday things for granted, but being in Haiti and witnessing what the Haitians are going through shows me a new perspective and gives me appreciation and gratitude for everything I have. Yesterday, we had village time and we walked around Titanyen and got to pray for families and help some little girls carrying huge buckets of water. It was a blessing to be able to serve them and pray for the families. I am so glad to have had this opportunity to serve and be in Haiti.

Day 4
Parents,
We had a great day today doing another Morning of VBS, followed by an afternoon of manual labor. Our students are loving, leading, and doing a great job of living their faith and walking in love. It's been exciting and encouraging to watch. Pray for us, tomorrow is our last day of VBS and manual labor. Pray for a strong finish, pray for our staff, our students, for God to use them and expose them to himself in deeper more intimate ways.
Thanks for your prayers! Below are more updates
Jordan Weeks
Though our time in Haiti has been short, the past few days have left a lasting impression on myself. Witnessing the worship last night was a once in lifetime experience for most all of us. Seeing the Haitian's true devotion to the Lord shone out unlike anything I've seen before last night. Looking at them with worldly eyes, they have so much fun with so much less. However, they have just as much as we do because we all have the Lord and He is the only one that brings true everlasting happiness. All of our worldly possessions only bring temporary fulfillment and leave us longing for more. For Him I am truly thankful.
Becca Polk
Learning what it means to truly love Gods children for me, means learning how to serve wholeheartedly. The ultimate act of service and love was Christ's death on the cross, and getting to show just a glimpse of Him to the Haitian children has been such a blessing. Another blessing is getting to see how much Mission of Hope has impacted the nation of Haiti, a nation devastated by disaster and poverty and desperate for the love of Christ. Having the opportunity to be the hands and feet of Christ is such an honor, and I can't think of a better way to spend a week.
Julia McDonald
This week has has been truly amazing for me to experience the love of Christ and to share that with the kids. It has allowed me to forget about myself and focus my energy towards serving with an open heart and really encouraging these children. Christ's works are wonderful and very visible through the work we have been doing here!
Dylan Walker
This week has been a true blessing in my life. Though it's gone by so fast, the lord has shown me his true love through everyone around me. Worshiping with the kids in vbs made me step back and look at life in another perspective. Seeing every Haitian be so devoted and excited to love and worship our God, was such a encouraging and heartwarming experience. Going into the vilages and seeing the rough life they live, makes me think about how blessed I am, and yet they love the lord just as much as me. The works of Christ are so visible and ive been so blessed to be able to spend a week like this, in a place like this.

Day 3
Parents,
Yesterday was a great day. We had a morning VBS. Then headed to a village on a MOH property that has a large "deaf" community. We got to play soccer, pray with, and even sing/sign worship "how great is our God" with this group. It was quite an afternoon.
Last night we had a worship church service at MOH Church. Singing, listening, and praying as creole and English flooded the room was incredible.
Keep us in your prayers, more updates to come!
Student updates:
Mack Sung: Having been to Haiti last year, it has been awesome seeing many familiar faces and also meeting so many new people. It is also amazing to see how God has worked in so many of the Haitians' lives. An experience that differed from last year was playing a soccer game against a deaf community's soccer team. This community was relocated from Haiti's worst slum to a village near Mission of Hope. Their condition is incredible in comparison to their previous condition. After the game, we circled up and prayed and sang How Great is Our God. After singing the song, we did the song silently in sign language. Even though they can't hear, the deaf understand the greatness and sovereignty of their Savior. God truly shows himself to every nation and tongue.
Abby Shannon-
These past few days in Haiti have been unbelievable. I'm so blessed that I have the opportunity to come here and not only meet an entirely new culture and love on kids, but I get to see the Lord in work while being here. The fact that kids are filled with so much joy regardless of their conditions is so awesome yet humbling! It's incredible to be a part of something with such a possible vision because its safe to say that what we're doing here is truly making a difference.
Lily Alexander
The past few days in Haiti have been so incredible. God is doing amazing things here. The effect the Mission of Hope is having on Haiti is unbelievable! It's so encouraging to see how the Lord is using people to build Haiti back up. Already I've seen so many changes from last year. Although they may not be huge changes, there is definitely progress in this country and in the Mission of Hope. The kids and people here are precious, of course! Their joy and love is just astounding. I've definitely learned to not be deceived by the lie that people are "happier" with stuff and worldly items, but that true happiness and joy is found through the Lord. I can't wait to see what else the Lord has to teach me this week and I feel so blessed to be used in His plan for Haiti!

Day 2 morning
Parents,
This morning we had a great time with our first VBS session!
Below are some updates from students about what the Lord is teaching, showing, and revealing to them.
Trevor Berry:
This my second year in Haiti and it's been really cool so far to see how things have progressed since only a year ago. We saw projects finished that we started last year, and I know we'll start a lot more this week. I've loved hanging out with the Haitian children and I'm looking forward to showing God's love with a bunch of new kids this year. It'll also be cool to have vacation bible school at other locations outside of Mission of Hope.
Macey McCarty:
This week the Lord has been humbling me by showing me kids that just have so much joy. When we went to Levique yesterday and we were able to play with all the kids, the joy they had on their faces despite the fact that they had very little amazed me. Some of them didn't have a single piece of clothes on yet they were still full of life. Their joy and happiness has taught me to be joyful in everything and that the Lord is al you need.
Madeline Autrey:
Yesterday we were in a village named Levique, home to hundreds of families, so of course there were a ton of kids. They were all mostly clothed except for this one little girl who I got to hold for about an hour. It's weird when you find yourself holding a naked baby who is caked in dirt and who probably hasn't taken a bath in a while. But the weird part is, you don't care! It's definately a parallel to our relationship with Christ (as are a lot of situations over here!!) We come to Christ all dirty but he welcomes us with own arms, accepting us where we are. Its a god reminder!
Addie Tamlyn:
Today we helped with the Mission of Hope VBS, I had the pleasure of working with the 7-8 year olds! All of the kids walked in with a smile on their face and they all had so much joy! God really showed me how you don't need material things to bring you joy and happiness! The Lord has truly been humbling me! I can't wait to wake up tomorrow and spend the day with the kiddos!!

Day 1
Parents,
We had a great first day! After arriving last night we worked on unpacking and immediately being put to work with an arts and crafts project for the VBS team:.

After that we had some group time and headed to bed.
Today we woke up for a early morning breakfast at 715, and then had a tour of the MOH property before 9 am church.

After a 3 hour church service, we had a quick lunch and then headed to view the offsite properties.
Below is one of the properties. This property named "beresi" was given to MOH by the Haitian government due to their stewardship. They are hopeful to turn the property into a conference center that will allowing groups to come in and stay in a beautiful area for a low cost that will further stimulate the economy in the area.

Tomorrow we will begin having each of our students write in their own words what God is showing, teaching, and revealing to them.
Keep us in your prayers! More updates to come!

Final student updates
Parents,
We are about to get on the bus to head to the airport. Below are our final updates:
"Okay so the children of Haiti give the best hugs ever and have the joyous smiles! The gorgeous scenery outside is a direct representation of Gods love and beauty. Haiti is beautiful with the mountains and hills but what really sticks with me is how beautiful their love for God is even in the midst of chaos. They have taught me so much about the hope that rises through suffering. Loved Haiti."
-Rachel Walton
"Since we leave tomorrow I have the advantage of looking back on the entirety of the week. And with this perspective I can clearly see how God works through these Haitian children. I thought that on this trip I would be the one attempting to convert these kids but multiple I was asked in broken English if I knew Jesus. Many were more focused on their walk with God because they have so little; and somehow they are still filled with incredible. All they want is to be loved on and played with and it was incredible to be the person that was there for them. The Haiti trip has been incredibly eye opening for me to see among this devastation and poverty such joy and Godliness that surpasses my own living in a place of abundance." -James Thweat

Friday and updates
Parents,
We just finished our final day at "Mission of Hope". We started the day with a trip out to a local village to do a VBS and street evangelism. We then spent a half day out at the ocean, playing along the beautiful shores of Haiti. It was a great day filled with fun and some relaxing snorkeling. We are headed back tomorrow morning, thankful for your prayers.
Below are more updates:
"I've never experienced anything like this. The children are a joy to play with and the joy and spirit these kids have in the Lord is inspiring. It's so fun doing the work projects with everyone; it's truly an incredible experience."
-Austin Jolesch
"This week I helped teach kids how to wash their hands and brush their teeth and that was just such a surprise to me that they didn't know what that was or how to do it. Especially, when we all do that everyday and don't think twice about it. It has also been incredible to see how much joy all the kids and Haitians have in worshiping the Lord. It's all so genuine and passionate and it's been really encouraging. I think that's taught all of us that possessions and money and comfort really won't bring us happiness."
-Andrew Thornton
"Haiti has been incredible! The unconditional love and joy the kids have is amazing. You can clearly see and feel the Lords presence everyday, it's so cool. It really has been such an incredible trip!" -Lily Alexander
"we went to a church service the other night and the worship part caught my attention. They were completely were abandoning themselves before Christ as they worshipped. The part that got me was that they had so much joy apparent in their worship but have absolutely nothing. It was obvious that They get what it really means to be satisfied in Christ."
-Madeline Autrey
"Haiti has been an experience of a life time, which I hope I never forget. There are so many different things to be learned, and at the same time many memories being made. It is so humbling and encouraging to see these people with so little praising the same God we have. God has really opened my eyes towards my own heart to check and see if I am holding on to anything besides god for our identity. Watching them worship god makes it evident that they know how to connect with him even without having any possessions. God is so present here, and it's just so exciting to see the hope they have. Also getting to share the gospel to non believers who listen so eagerly! It's one of the greatest joys to share the gospel here to people who have never heard of Jesus!"
-Luke Ellerman
Haiti for me has been the most rewarding and life changing experience of my life. I know it's no accident that I came here. It has really been a blessing getting to be with the people here and be a servant for people who don't have anything. God is doing amazing things here and I hope that I can come back soon.
-Will Tarnasky
Haiti has been such a eye opener for me. The poverty and devastation is everywhere, although the people don't have much they still have an unmistakable joy. This experience has made me so thankful for everything I have and has taught me to have joy in all situations.
-Alexis McDonald
"I went on this trip expecting to have a typical mission trip experience where God opens your eyes to a way of life you've never seen before. Everyone always says that God has a plan and His was different for me-I was sick the first two days of the trip. Through the frustration and helplessness, God gave me the time to truly figure out why I'm here and that I physically, mentally, and emotionally can not do this without fully relying on Him. I started feeling better after He helped me change my mindset. The main thing I've learned on this trip is that love brings life. The way that the Haitian kids light up and smile and laugh when we simply pick them up reminds me of the joy we find in Christ-we just have to ask Him to pick us up and we will find complete joy and hope in Him. Even though the things I learned here weren't what I expected, I'm so thankful God gave me this opportunity to be in this country with these amazing people!"
-Maggie Washington
"The kids in Haiti really touch your heart. They don't even know who you are or where you came from, but they run to you and jump in your lap, and just love on you. It's so apparent that these kids need love, and we can give it to them. It's been so rewarding for me to see the smiles on these kids faces, and I wish that I could take some home with me!"
-Kate Hauser
"I would trade all the air conditioning and the comforts of home for all this dirt and grime here in Haiti any day. This experience has grown me so much in my faith and has had such a big impact on me. Despite the trials and the hot days this trip has amounted to so much. Praise God for allowing this group to be a part of spreading his love to a place that needs so much. I pray that this experience will spur this group on to do great things in the lives of the ones in need at home."
Lizzie Housewright
"God is wonderful. When we are just driving through the city and see so many smiling children all you can is just praise God. These people have the biggest smiles and the kids are the happiest kids I have ever seen. One of my highlights of the trip happens almost everyday, everytime I meet a kid the ask me if I follow Jesus. When I reply with a yes, they are just all lot up inside. I pray that this trip will continue to open my eyes and heart even in America."

Thursday morning

Parents,
We had a great morning doing our last VBS for the orphanage. Your students have been incredible, they have loved and served in such a way that some of the staff even remarked "this is the best group we have had this summer". They have not been perfect but they have been purposefully and really served these children, the orphanage, and each other well. This afternoon we will head back to construction sites. Pray that we would steward well the short time we have well. More updates later today!

Wednesday morning

Parents,
After a great night last night at "Tuesday night church" we had a group Devo and headed to bed around 10am. This morning was another VBS and now we are headed out to paint homes for a few hours. Keep our ministry in your prayers, and Haiti in general. More students updates below:
"This trip to Haiti has been an awesome experience so far. The Haitian people have such a raw and open faith, so it has been great to watch them worship and genuinely praise the lord at church and in their everyday activities. They are all so friendly and eager to talk more about the lord!! It has encouraged me to be more welcoming of others and to share my faith without constraint!"
-Kathryn stouffer
"Bonjou! Our time in Haiti has been amazing. We have had the opportunity to love kids unconditionally and let our actions reflect Christ because we cant with our words. It's so encouraging to get to serve alongside other students and see the love of Christ in the hugs and the high fives and our sad attempts at speaking creole. Can't wait to bring the Haitian worship back to Dallas."
-Kirby wags
"This trip has been such an eye opening experience. I have loved hanging with the kids and loving on them. They don't have a lot of the comforts we have at home but yet they are still smiling and literally jumping for joy. It's apparent they have put their hope in the Lord, and that's definatley something that is worth smiling about. I feel very blessed to be here." - Jillian Martin
"This trip to Haiti has been such a life changing opportunity. It's been such a joy to just love on these kids and give them the love that they don't receive everyday. It's been incredible to see the way they worship and just how much love they have for the Lord at such a young age. I have been so encouraged and can see how my faith will be changed because of it. I am so blessed to be here!"
